Vacation Bible School 2006

This years Vacation Bible School was on June 12-16th and was a wonder time with the children.

We had 27 the first day and ended up with 66 on Friday.  What is really amazing is the number of people who helped out, our faculty.  We averaged 26 helpers per night!

We had five children make professions of faith and three of them were baptized on the following Sunday Morning, June 18, 2006

Widows Luncheon 2006

Sunday February 12th 2006, First Baptist Church Deacons and Wives of Avinger, TX honored the widows of Avinger with a luncheon and a concert.

This is the second year that they have gone into the community and invited the widows that are members of First Baptist and widows from the community of Avinger.  Thirty three invitations were sent and twenty three happy and smiling widows showed up for the festivities.  Each woman was met at the door, given a corsage and was escorted to their table.  The deacons did the serving while their wives were busy in the kitchen.

Later everyone was given a concert by Paul and Michelle  Hancock (pastors daughter) of Arlington Texas and our pastor Bob Crowder made up the trio.

A great time was had by all.

Fifth Sunday, January 29, 2006 "A Wonderful Success"

Sunday afternoon, January 29th, 2006,  First Baptist Church of Avinger held it's first "fifth Sunday" Gospel Sing.  After the morning services, we had a church wide lunch.  "It seemed like we served over a hundred people" was the cry from the serving staff.  We were blessed with many visitors that joined with us.

After lunch we had a "sing" that started about 1:15 PM.  Many singers from First Baptist as well as singers from other church's in the area joined in to make the day a wonderful success.

"Let's do this again" was the common statement as people left the church.  We will!
